If you are thinking about giving your house a makeover, you should definitely consider using decorative wallpaper! There are so many creative ways to use it. Let me show you 9 ways I would decorate my home with it.
To be honest, I have never used wallpaper to decorate anything! I have no idea how easy or difficult it is to use, I have zero experience with its application process, and I don’t know anything about maintaining it. I suggest that you do a little research and follow the instructions before using any type of wallpaper.
That said, I have been looking for ideas to use decorative wallpaper, and I am so inspired by them! I want to share some of the best ideas I found with you.
Why use decorative wallpaper?
Decorative wallpaper is a great way to give your home a little makeover, to make it look more interesting, creative, or even sophisticated. Sure, you could maybe use paint to create similar designs, or maybe even use stencils to make it easier. However, if you’re not sure that you have the skills to do so, you can decorate with wallpaper instead.
Here are some of the ideas I loved for decorative wallpaper:
1. Accent Wall
This is pretty much the common use for decorative wallpaper, right? But I’ve seen it being used on all four walls of a room so many times. In my opinion, that makes the room look way too crowded, specially if the wallpaper has a busy pattern. The best way to make the decorative wallpaper look eye-catching, is to choose the wall were you want the main focus to be in, and make it an accent wall with the wallpaper.
2. Creative Stairwell
My house has no stairs, but this idea makes me wish it did! Using decorative wallpaper in between each step can really make your stairwell pop.
3. Shelf or Cupboard Background
Use a fun decorative wallpaper to cover the background of a shelf or cupboard to give it a unique touch. I am seriously considering this idea for the shelf I have in my bedroom. It looks so pretty!
4. Kitchen Back-splash
Usually, the kitchen’s back-splash is made with tiles, but I love how creative you can get with a decorative wallpaper as a back-splash. However, you may need to look for a waterproof and easy to clean wallpaper, or take the necessary steps to protect it, since the kitchen is a stain-prone area.
5. Eye-catching Ceiling
Why should ceilings be boring? Instead of just painting it a neutral color, use a beautiful decorative wallpaper to make it the focus point of the room. I’m in love with this idea! ♥
6. Temporary Wallpaper
If you get bored easily and you want to keep your home fresh and updated every now and then, I would recommend using easy-to-remove, temporary wallpaper. That way you can change it as many times as you like with less of a hassle. Some wallpapers are even reusable, so you can use it again if you still like its design.
7. Wallpaper Silhouette
This is such a cute idea, specially for children’s rooms. Cut any wallpaper into any shape or silhouette you like and use it as a decoration on any wall.
8. Pretty Doors
I’m considering this idea for my room too! Using decorative wallpaper, you can cover a room’s door, or even its closet’s doors. Now that I think about it, this would also look great on drawers.
9. Unique Headboard
Using the same idea of cutting you decorative wallpaper into a silhouette, you could make your own headboard any shape you like! However, I would only do this with temporary wallpaper, in case I want to move around the furniture in my room and change the position of the bed.
These are all just ideas that could help you get inspired to give your home a relatively easy makeover with decorative wallpaper. But there are so many other ways to use wallpaper! If you have any other ideas, you are welcome to share them with us in the comments below. ♥
