DIY Lip Scrub Recipe
Remember, this “recipe” is only a guide. Measurements will go according to your specific needs. Don’t get obsessed with the details, just use what you have! For my own lip scrub, I decided to use the following measurements:
– 1 tsp Vaseline (you can also use Vaseline Lip Therapy)
One of the main purposes of Vaseline is to relieve chapped or cracked skin. This will soothe and repair your lips gently.
– 1/2 tsp granulated organic brown sugar (you can use regular sugar too, this is just what I already had at home)
Sugar is the key ingredient for scrubs. This will help you rub away impurities and make your lips look brand new. I only used 1/2 tsp to keep the mixture soft, but if you want it to have more texture you can add a whole teaspoon.
– 1 tsp Pure Honey (you can substitute with olive oil)
Honey is widely known for its numerous healthy benefits, and one of the most important is moisturizing skin. So prepare your lips for long lasting hydration!
– 3 drops of Vanilla Extract (optional)
This is just a touch of customization. You can use any kind of extract to give your lip scrub a sweet scent of flavor.
– 1 drop of Red food coloring (optional)
Food coloring is also just an extra. This just makes your lip scrub look pretty. Since it’s just one drop, it wont necessarily stain your lips, but just in case, be careful with the colors you choose. You can also substitute food coloring for any kind of ingredient that will tint the mixture. For example, since I wanted a soft red, I could have used strawberries to tint my lip scrub.
Blend all the ingredients together with a spoon. Remember, you can add more of any of the ingredients until you find the texture that you like. Mine had a “mushy” but not liquid consistency. You can also store it in your fridge if you want the texture to be more firm.
After it’s all well blended, use the spoon to fill your container. (You can get this kind of container here)
How to use
Lip scrubs are very easy to use. You just need an unused, soft, toothbrush, or even your own fingers. Rub the mixture on your lips for at least 30 seconds as frequent as necessary. Once a week is enough if you don’t have extremely dry lips.
Store your lip scrub in the fridge if you want it to last longer. Remember to check the expiration date on the ingredients you used, and throw it out before any of them goes bad, especially if you have used fresh ingredients like strawberries.
After using my DIY Lip Scrub, my lips definitely feel softer and well moisturized. As a plus, it kind of looks like I’m wearing a soft pink glossy lipstick!
